How the Panchang is calculated
Tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, sunrise, sunset and Rahu Kaal are worked out astronomically from the actual positions of the Sun and Moon, on the sidereal (nirayana) zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa. The default location is New Delhi; choose your own location to see timings for your city.
Vrat and festival dates can differ by a day between regions and traditions. For an important ritual, confirm with your family priest or local panchang.
Our content
Articles and texts draw on traditional scripture (the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, the Bhagavad Gita and the Ramcharitmanas) and on widely followed puja practice. Where traditions differ, we say so. Anything touching on health is presented as traditional belief, not as a substitute for medical advice.
Every article shows the date it was published. If you spot a mistake, please let us know and we'll correct it.
