Panchang FAQ
A tithi lasts roughly 19 to 26 hours, while a solar day is fixed at 24 hours. Because of this mismatch, a tithi often ends partway through the day and the next one begins — this is called a Vriddhi Tithi. Occasionally a very short tithi doesn't touch any sunrise at all and is skipped entirely (Kshaya Tithi). The times shown above tell you exactly which tithi is active and until when, today.
Choghadiya divides both the day and the night into 8 equal segments each. Amrit, Shubh, and Labh are considered auspicious (good for travel or starting new work), Udveg, Kaal, and Rog are considered inauspicious, and Chal is neutral. Checking for a Shubh Choghadiya before starting important work is a common traditional practice.
Today's tithi is Dwadashi in Krishna Paksha. The nakshatra is Revati, yoga is Dhruva, and karana is Kaulava.
Panchang is the traditional Hindu calendar system built from five elements (panch-anga): Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (a Sun-Moon combination angle), and Karana (half of a tithi).
Rahukaal is a period each day, roughly 90 minutes long, traditionally considered inauspicious for starting new or important work. Its timing shifts daily and depends on sunrise, sunset, and the day of the week.
Vikram Samvat is the Hindu calendar era most widely used in North India, running about 57 years ahead of the Gregorian year. Shaka Samvat is India's official national civil calendar era, running about 78 years behind the Gregorian year.
