    Bhai Dooj

Celebrating the unbreakable bond of siblings — the closing day of the five-day Diwali festival

    ⏳ 35 days to go (2026)

    History

Bhai Dooj falls on Kartik Shukla Dwitiya and marks the close of Diwali's five-day celebrations. Legend holds that Yamaraj visited his sister Yamuna, who welcomed him with a tilak and warm hospitality — since then, sisters apply tilak on their brothers' foreheads on this day, praying for their long life and well-being.

    Significance

Like Raksha Bandhan, this festival celebrates sibling affection, but with the distinctive tradition of the brother visiting his sister's home, dining there, and offering gifts.

    Puja Vidhi

Sisters perform tilak and aarti for their brothers, offer sweets, and pray for their long life. Brothers, in turn, offer gifts and blessings to their sisters.

    Muhurat

The auspicious tilak muhurat generally falls around midday during the Dwitiya tithi. Check the Panchang for exact timing.
