Ram Navami
Celebrating the birth of Lord Rama
See all Ram content →History
Ram Navami falls on the ninth day (Navami) of the bright fortnight of Chaitra, marking Lord Vishnu's incarnation as Rama, born to King Dashratha and Queen Kaushalya in Ayodhya. It falls on the ninth and final day of Chaitra Navratri.
Significance
Ram Navami honors the ideal life of Maryada Purushottam Rama — truth, righteousness, and devotion to duty. Devotees mark the day with readings from the Ramcharitmanas and Ramayana, bhajans, and special temple worship.
Puja Vidhi
Bathe in the morning and take a vow to observe the day. Set up and worship images of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman. Recite the Ramcharitmanas or Ramayana, and perform special aarti at midday — the traditional hour of Rama's birth.
Mantra
श्री राम जय राम जय जय राम॥
Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram॥
This is a simple, widely chanted invocation of Rama's name — its continuous repetition is said to deepen peace and devotion.
Muhurat
The main puja is performed at midday on Navami tithi, traditionally regarded as Rama's birth hour.
