History
Bhadrachalam Temple stands on the banks of the Godavari and is dedicated to Lord Rama. Legend holds that Rama appeared here pleased by the devotion of a sage named Bhadra. The present temple was built in the 17th century by the devotee Ramadasu (Kancharla Gopanna), a revenue official who was imprisoned for using government funds toward the temple's construction — legend holds that Rama and Lakshmana themselves intervened to clear his debt.
Spiritual significance
Bhadrachalam's Sri Rama Navami celebration is one of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh's grandest annual events, featuring a state-government-sponsored offering of pearls (Muthyala Thalambralu) for the Sita-Rama wedding ceremony.
