    What it means

I bow to Saraswati. Aim is her seed syllable, thought of as the seed of speech and learning.

    Where it comes from

In Bengal and much of eastern India, Saraswati Puja on Vasant Panchami happens in schools and homes, and children leave their books at the goddess's feet. There's no studying that day; the books are being blessed. Musicians often say this mantra before practice, too.

    How to chant it

Sit on white or yellow cloth with a book or an instrument in front of you, offer a white or yellow flower, and chant.

When: Vasant Panchami, and every morning before study.

    Try it now

The japa counter opens with this mantra selected and keeps count for you.

    Chant 108 times

    Questions people ask

Many students chant it to calm and focus the mind. It can't stand in for preparation, but people find it steadies the nerves.
