    History

The Brahma temple at Pushkar is regarded as the most prominent of India's very few Brahma shrines — while temples to Shiva and Vishnu number in the thousands, temples to Brahma are exceptionally rare. Legend holds that Brahma chose this site for a yajna after a lotus flower (pushkar) fell from his hand and landed here. The present temple structure is believed to date to around the 14th century.

    Spiritual significance

Pushkar Lake itself is considered highly sacred, and ritual bathing here is a long-standing tradition. The town's annual Pushkar Camel Fair (around Kartik Purnima) is famous worldwide.

    Common questions

According to mythology, a curse limited Brahma's worship on earth, which is why the Pushkar temple remains one of the very few major shrines dedicated to him.
