What it means
Victory to the Mother. The di is Punjabi, meaning "of".
Where it comes from
On the roughly twelve-kilometre climb from Katra to the Bhawan, pilgrims say it to each other as they pass, and for tired legs it's encouragement as much as prayer. At Navratri jagrans it's called through the night, and across north India devotees of the Goddess use it as a greeting.
How to chant it
Aloud, together. It's often paired with the call bolo sanche darbar ki jai.
When: Navratri, jagrans, and on the way to the Goddess's shrine.
