History
The Nageshwar temple near Dwarka is linked to a Shiva Purana story in which a demon named Daruka imprisoned a devotee, Supriya; Shiva appeared, destroyed the demon, and assured devotees that whoever worshipped him sincerely here as "Nageshwar" (Lord of the serpents) would be freed from poison and fear. The complex also features a towering roughly 25-metre statue of Shiva, visible from a considerable distance.
Spiritual significance
Nageshwar is often combined with a visit to the Dwarkadhish temple, since both are close by, allowing pilgrims to cover both darshans in a single trip.
