    Meaning

"Om Jai Jagdish Hare" is the aarti of Bhagwan Vishnu and among the most widely sung aartis in India. Its verses address Jagdish — lord of the universe — as the one who lifts away his devotees' troubles in an instant, and as mother and father, the indweller, Parabrahma, and friend of the destitute. Calling himself foolish and wrong-minded, the devotee acknowledges there is no other refuge, and closes by asking for the ending of worldly cravings and the deepening of faith and devotion. The final couplet carries the signature of Shivanand Swami. It is sung at Vishnu and Satyanarayan puja, on Thursdays, and as the daily evening aarti in countless homes.

    Benefits

    • 🪷Sung to conclude the Satyanarayan katha and Vishnu puja
    • 🪷Part of Thursday worship and the daily evening aarti in many homes
    • 🪷Sung together at housewarmings, weddings and auspicious gatherings
    • 🪷Sung to settle the mind and awaken a sense of gratitude

    Chanting Method

Light a ghee lamp before an image of Vishnu and offer tulsi leaves and yellow flowers. Sing the aarti while circling the lamp clockwise. Afterwards offer panchamrit or panjiri as bhog and distribute the prasad.

    Best Time

Thursdays and Ekadashi are especially auspicious; otherwise it may be sung at the evening aarti on any day.

    FAQ

It is the devotee's line of humility — calling himself foolish, flawed and full of craving, and asking for grace precisely from that place of lowliness.

It is fundamentally an aarti to Jagdish, that is Vishnu, but because the name is so all-encompassing it is also sung at Satyanarayan, Ram and Krishna worship.

It is the composer's signature. The same signature closes the Shiv Aarti and the Durga Aarti as well.
