    History

Anant Chaturdashi falls on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturdashi and is dedicated to Vishnu's "Ananta" (infinite, beginningless-endless) form. Devotees tie a 14-knotted sacred thread ("Ananta Sutra") on their right arm, symbolizing infinite protection and prosperity. The day also marks the conclusion of the ten-day Ganeshotsav that began with Ganesh Chaturthi, and the immersion (visarjan) of Ganesha idols.

    Significance

In Maharashtra and western India, grand Ganesh Visarjan processions are held on this day, with millions participating as idols are immersed in water amid chants of "Ganpati Bappa Morya, Agle Baras Tu Jaldi Aa."

    Puja Vidhi

Worship Lord Vishnu, tie the Ananta Sutra, and listen to the vrat katha. In the evening, perform the ceremonial immersion of any Ganesh idol if you observed Ganeshotsav.

    Muhurat

Worship during the Chaturdashi tithi is considered auspicious; time the immersion according to local guidelines and the Panchang.
