Meaning
"Jai Santoshi Mata" is the aarti of Maa Santoshi, revered as the goddess of contentment and of peace within the household. Its verses describe her form — golden robes, ornaments of diamond and emerald, a lotus-like face, and a golden throne from which her gentle smile enchants the three worlds. One verse explains that jaggery and roasted gram are her dearest offering, and that it is from being content with so simple a bhog that she came to be called Santoshi. It is sung above all on Fridays and at the udyapan of the sixteen-Friday Santoshi Mata vrat.
Benefits
- 🪷Essential to the sixteen-Friday Santoshi Mata vrat
- 🪷Sung after listening to the vrat katha
- 🪷Sung with the prayer for contentment, peace and good fortune at home
- 🪷Sung together on the day the vrat is concluded (udyapan)
Chanting Method
On Friday, bathe and set a kalash before an image of Maa Santoshi, offering jaggery and roasted gram as bhog. After listening to the vrat katha, sing the aarti while circling a ghee lamp. Eating or even touching sour foods is traditionally avoided on this day.
Best Time
Friday morning, immediately after listening to the vrat katha, is considered the best time.
