    Meaning

"Om Jai Lakshmi Mata" is the aarti of Maa Mahalakshmi, consort of Vishnu and the goddess of wealth, abundance and good fortune. Its verses invoke her as Uma, Rama and Brahmani, and say that without her grace no yajna is completed and no household knows the abundance of food and clothing. It also recalls the fourteen jewels that rose from the churning of the ocean of milk. It is sung above all at the Lakshmi Puja of Diwali, and on Fridays through the year.

    Benefits

    • 🪷An essential part of the Lakshmi Puja performed at Diwali
    • 🪷Sung at Friday evening worship through the year
    • 🪷Sung with the prayer for prosperity and peace in the household
    • 🪷Traditional at the consecration of a new business, shop, or ledger

    Chanting Method

Bathe and wear clean clothes in the evening. Before an image of Maa Lakshmi, light a ghee lamp and offer lotus or red flowers. Sing the aarti while circling the lamp, then offer kheer or batasha as bhog and distribute it as prasad.

    Best Time

Friday evenings, and the pradosh-kaal Lakshmi Puja on Diwali night, are considered the most auspicious times.

    FAQ

Friday is regarded as Lakshmi's day. Beyond that, it is invariably sung during the Lakshmi Puja on Diwali night.

It refers to the fourteen jewels that emerged from the churning of the ocean. Lakshmi herself arose from that churning, so the verse says none of those treasures can be obtained without her.
