    History

Basant Panchami falls on Magh Shukla Panchami and is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Goddess Saraswati, patron of knowledge, learning, and the arts. The day also marks the arrival of spring, when mustard fields bloom yellow — hence the tradition of wearing yellow clothing and preparing yellow-hued foods like saffron halwa.

    Significance

The day is considered especially auspicious for a child's Vidyarambham (formal start of education) and for beginning new learning or artistic pursuits. Schools and educational institutions widely observe special Saraswati Puja on this day.

    Puja Vidhi

Bathe early and wear yellow attire. Place books, musical instruments, and writing implements before an image of Saraswati for blessing, and chant "Om Aim Saraswatyai Namah."

    Muhurat

Worship any time during the Panchami tithi is considered auspicious; check the Panchang for exact dates and timing.
