History
The Vaishno Devi shrine sits in a cave on the Trikuta hills, where the goddess is worshipped as three natural rock formations (pindis) representing the combined power of Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati. Legend holds that she slew the demon Bhairavnath here. Traditionally, Vaishno Devi is not one of the 51 classical Shakti Peethas but is revered as a distinct, hugely popular manifestation of Adi Shakti.
Spiritual significance
Vaishno Devi is one of India's most-visited pilgrimage sites, drawing crores of devotees annually. The pilgrimage route is exceptionally well organized, with helicopter, battery car, and palanquin options available alongside the traditional trek.
