See all Hanuman content →History
Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon of the Chaitra month (in some regions, on Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi instead). It marks the birth of Hanuman, son of Anjani and Kesari and the offspring of the wind god Vayu. Hanuman is revered as Lord Rama's greatest devotee, one of the eight immortal Chiranjeevis, and the embodiment of strength, wisdom, and devotion.
Significance
The day is especially revered for overcoming fear, obstacles, and negative influences. Temples host collective recitations of the Hanuman Chalisa and Sundarkand.
Puja Vidhi
Bathe early and offer sindoor and a ceremonial cloak (chola) to the Hanuman idol. Recite the Hanuman Chalisa and Sundarkand, and offer bundi or jaggery-chana as prasad.
Muhurat
Early morning is considered especially auspicious for worship, as Hanuman is believed to have been born around sunrise.
