    Meaning

The Hanuman Chalisa is a 40-verse devotional hymn composed by Goswami Tulsidas in praise of Lord Hanuman. It begins with an invocation to the Guru, seeking strength, wisdom, and knowledge. The verses describe Hanuman's birth, his immense strength and wisdom, his unwavering devotion to Lord Rama, and his heroic deeds — including burning Lanka, carrying the Sanjeevani herb to save Lakshman, and serving as Rama's most trusted devotee. The hymn closes with the assurance that anyone who recites it with sincere faith is freed from fear, sorrow, and obstacles.

    Benefits

    • 🪷Traditionally believed to remove fear and negative energy
    • 🪷Builds confidence, courage, and mental resolve
    • 🪷Aids concentration and inner peace during recitation
    • 🪷Devotees turn to it for protection from obstacles
    • 🪷Regular chanting is associated with renewed physical and mental energy

    Chanting Method

Bathe and wear clean clothes before beginning. Sit facing east or north. Light a ghee or oil lamp before an image or idol of Hanuman ji. Recite the two opening dohas first, then the 40 chaupais slowly and clearly, followed by the closing doha. A single recitation daily is traditional; on Tuesdays, Saturdays, or during difficult times, devotees often recite it 7, 11, or 108 times.

    Best Time

Brahma Muhurta (roughly 96 minutes before sunrise) is considered ideal. Tuesdays and Saturdays are especially significant for Hanuman worship.

    FAQ

Reciting it once daily is considered sufficient for regular practice. During difficult periods or for a specific wish, devotees traditionally recite it 7, 11, or 108 times.

This is a matter of personal faith and family tradition rather than a single universal rule. Sincerity and devotion in the mind are considered the most important factors.

The Hanuman Chalisa was composed in the 16th century by Goswami Tulsidas, who is also the author of the Ramcharitmanas.

Yes, it can be recited at night as well, especially in times of difficulty. While the early morning Brahma Muhurta is traditionally considered best, it can be recited with devotion at any time.
