    What it means

Hanuman, the messenger of Shri Ram. Before anything else, Hanuman is Ram's servant and envoy. The Chalisa says as much: Ram doot atulit bal dhama.

    Where it comes from

Hanuman never makes himself the hero. When Ravana's court asks who he is, he introduces himself as Rama's servant. Devotees say that's why this is the name he likes best. People reading the Sundarkand often repeat it between chapters.

    How to chant it

On a mala, quietly, alongside the Sundarkand or the Chalisa.

When: Tuesdays, Saturdays, and during a Sundarkand reading.
