    History

The Ambaji temple stands on Arasur Hill near the Gujarat-Rajasthan border. Tradition holds that Sati's heart fell here. Uniquely, the sanctum has no idol — instead, a "Visa Yantra" (Shri Yantra) is worshipped, which devotees are traditionally not meant to view with the naked eye and see only through a gold covering. The nearby Gabbar hill is considered the goddess's original seat.

    Spiritual significance

Ambaji is counted among Gujarat's most important pilgrimage sites, and a massive fair is held on Bhadrapada Purnima, drawing lakhs of devotees who walk in on foot (padyatra).

    Common questions

The sanctum honours the goddess's presence through a sacred Shri Yantra (Visa Yantra) rather than a sculpted form — reflecting an ancient Shakta tradition of formless worship.
