    History

The Vindhyachal temple stands by the Ganga near Mirzapur and is linked to the Devi Bhagavata Purana — when Krishna was born, Vasudeva secretly exchanged him for a girl child (Yogamaya) at Kansa's prison. When Kansa tried to kill that infant, she slipped from his grasp, rose into the sky, and revealed herself as the goddess, later manifesting here as Vindhyavasini. The area is well known for its triangular pilgrimage circuit covering Vindhyavasini, Ashtabhuja, and Kali Khoh.

    Spiritual significance

The pilgrimage circuit covering three temples — Vindhyavasini (sattva), Ashtabhuja (rajas), and Kali Khoh (tamas) — is called the Trikon Yatra, symbolizing the goddess's three-fold nature.
